Cover Page Design Draft

This is my cover page draft of the layout I want to have for my magazine. I want to have limited writing around the model and I wanted to have the artist's signature at the bottom of the page. I want the text to also wrap around the artist and possibly have the Slug being slightly covered by the main image of the artist as well. By doing this it will give the effect of confidence and dedication to fans of the artists.

Supporting Artist Photos (Jason Ripley)

I chose this photo for the featured image within the contents page. I manipulated this photo to black and white, I liked this photo as it reflected his bad-boy image and the smoke was reflected well within the light. I preferred this side shot of Jack(my model)  as it connotates that he isn't bothered about adressing his fans but just playing music and the joy of playing. The focal image of the artist istands out nicely against the blurred background but shows some detail. where as the other photos didn't have this photo light and quality.

Supporting Artist Photos (Jazmin Star)

I manipulated these two photos and the first photo had a focal point aimed at the artist herself so the background is slighty Blurred but still has emphasis due the the manipulation of colour and use of light. I decided to use the second manipulation for the supporting artist' photo as it reflected vibrancy yet focusing on the artist and outlines the break off from the blurred surroundings and the contrast of the clear image of the artist. Although I really liked the colour version of the photo it didn't create enough contrast and edge between the background and focal image of the artist.

Supporting Artist Photography: The Krugers

I chose this photo for the image shown in the contents page for the Kruger's. Because the expressions really captured the serious and mellowness of the band's image. I also loved the contrast and saturation of the background compared to the monotone colours of the clothing of the band. The contouring of light in the band's faces is very effect and compliments their skin tones. Where as the other photos didn't show this highlighting and contrasting effect.

Contents Pages Artists

Contents Artist #1

The Kruger's - They are band currently a very popular indie rock band they have recently released their new album "Vendetta" and in progress of asking their loyal fans to send them ideas for a video. They consist of 3 members David, Joe and Michael  who will be modelled by Phillip Bibek and Theo. David will be wearing a hoodie jumper chinos/black jeans and converse, Joe will wear a bomber jacket/leather jacket and wear black boots with a plain coloured top and Michael will wear a leather jacket with a black top with white writing and black trousers with black sneakers. What David is wearing represents the chilled out and ordinary appeal from their fans. What Joe is wearing appeals to the very serious and style conscious fans will appeal to. What Michael is wearing appeals to the "bad boy" image that the girls love as well as appealing to males fashion sense wise. The expression I would like them to pose as is very serious yet laid back with the way their style is.

 Contents Artist #2

Jazmin Star- modelled by Aly Pugh she's very alternative and represents weird and unusual subjects within her music videos as well as her dress sense. Her family originates from Azerbaijan but she moved to the uk when she was three and is fluent in english, but the tone of her voice is very unique and rustik. She's 26 and in a relationship with her boyfriend Alek Johnson and she ocasionally uses him within her videos. She will wear with a white collar shirt with black high-waisted trousers and black boots or a black dress with tights and black boots. She styles her hair as being very win swept and has a lot of volume to it and she displays a very innocent yet defined make-up tone but her facial expressions will contrast with the innotcent tone of her make up as the expressions will be very serious and sureal.

Contents Artist #3

Jason Ripley-( model:Jack) solo artist born in Brooklyn, lived in London since he was 7 age 21 is known for smoking a cigarette at every concert he plays even if it's a health and safety hazard. His music is very personal and is mostly acoustic and very soul touching. He has recently collaborated with the Kruger's and has been asked to collaborate with other artists because of his unique voice. He will wear a demin jacket and black trousers and will have quite messy hair style and be smoking a cigarette to reflect his rebellious nature and style.

Feature Article Artist Planning (Main Artist)

Feature Article Artists Planning

For my main artist I decided to have a solo artist as the cover and featured artist within the magazine. I intend on using George as my artist Skylar Matthews. Skylar Matthews is a new breakthrough artist who is sharing how is was discovered and his background life and inspiration for the single he has just recently released. Skylar is 18 and Lives in Brighton but his origins of family come from Scotland so he has a slight Scottish accent and is slightly detected within his music. He used to be in a band called "Brixton" with his 3 friends Aiden, Oscar and Oakley. Skylar decided to go solo after he finished sixth form and he started working solely on his music as well as working part- time in the local café and playing gigs by the pier. Skylar is also single so the sex appeal with stretch within the female reader. The costume I want for my model is as follows: I want to incorporate a very rugged and "don't care" look to my model. By doing this I would encourage my model to wear a leather jacket, plain white shirt, doc martens or vans and possibly be holding either a guitar as a prop or wearing sunglasses or i would like him to be wearing a denimn shirt and black trousers with black vans. The leather jacket/denimn shirt is to represent the "bad boy" image that appeals to the female audience as well posing as a fashion must have for the male fans. The plain white T-shirt represents a more earth like and relatable figure to follow for the readers and fans. It also intrigues the audience to read about the article and his style as he looks like a very ordinary guy, so it solely focuses on his music rather than his image. The Doc martens and Vans would then promote the products as well as encourage readers to follow his dress sense as well as the brands relate the  target audience of ABC1 category.  Hairstyle: I want his hair to be spike up slightly as he has quite short hair, but the style is very popular within male subjects so by using this hair style to compliment the outfit it with create a trend for readers to aspire to. I believe this style is appropriate towards the associated genre of indie rock. The pose I want the model to portray is very relaxed and natural so a possible location could be up against a tree in the woods, as the signifies the new artist coming out of no where or just classically against a brick wall to show connotations of his back ground either being from a city or his lifestyle revolving around city life. Or I would like to shoot it whithin a skate park to reflect his interests of skateboarding.

House Style (Layout and colour scheme)

LAYOUT:
I decided I wanted to reflect my layout as being quite tidy and professional yet have a display of images that would not fit within the grid system. But the text and content would be presented very much in a clean and precise arrangement within grid lines. I gathered inspiration from the magazine styles of both "Q" and " Billboard" as they show their dominant image to be centred and then have the textual add-ons to be around the main supported image. I believe in using this style it will promote the artist more specifically as it would include a bit more white space so you can focus upon the image as well as focusing on the surrounding text. The layout should also include a heading banner at the top of the contents and feature articles. I want this to co inside with my colour scheme of red, blue and mint green. I believe it would be  quite fun to maybe stretch out the masthead or even the Z from the mast and have it as the banner at the top of the page.

For Example:
